BCT Sodium Citrate Dosing Machine

The Sodium Citrate Dosing Machine is a fully automatic, high-precision liquid dosing system designed to dispense a predetermined volume of Sodium Citrate anticoagulant solution into blood collection tubes. The machine ensures accurate dosing, excellent repeatability, and contamination-free operation while complying with GMP requirements. Sodium citrate is commonly used in coagulation blood collection tubes to prevent blood clotting by binding calcium ions.

Operational Process

1. Empty Tube Infeed

  • Empty blood collection tubes are automatically transferred from the upstream conveyor to the dosing machine.
  • Tubes are indexed into precision holders using a servo-driven indexing system.
  • Sensors detect tube presence and ensure proper positioning before dosing begins.
2. Tube Positioning

  • Each tube is accurately positioned beneath the dosing nozzles.
  • The indexing mechanism ensures precise alignment for uniform filling.
  • Tube presence sensors prevent dosing into empty positions.
3. Sodium Citrate Solution Feeding

  • The Sodium Citrate solution is stored in a GMP-compliant SS316L stainless steel storage tank equipped with:
    • Low-level sensor
    • Agitator (if required)
    • Level indicator
    • Sanitary piping

  • The solution is continuously supplied to the dosing manifold through hygienic tubing.
4. Precision Liquid Dosing

  • Servo-controlled piston pumps or precision metering pumps dispense the programmed volume of Sodium Citrate into each tube.
  • Multiple dosing heads allow simultaneous filling of several tubes, increasing production efficiency.
  • Filling parameters are adjustable through the HMI to accommodate different tube sizes and additive volumes.
  • The dosing nozzles are equipped with anti-drip and suck-back mechanisms to prevent dripping and cross-contamination.
5. Dose Verification (Optional)

  • Integrated sensors or weighing systems verify:
    • Additive presence
    • Correct dosing volume
    • Filling consistency

  • Any abnormal dosing condition triggers an alarm and the affected tube is automatically rejected.
6. Tube Discharge

  • After successful dosing, the tubes are automatically transferred to the downstream conveyor.
  • The dosed tubes proceed to subsequent processes such as drying (if required), stoppering, vacuuming, capping, labeling, and packaging.
